Private Sailing Lessons

Build the confidence to sail 22' to 30' sailboats through the certificate courses. Also available are Private Lessons, Adult Refresher or Basic Navigation. Schedules are flexible and courses are affordable. I will do everything possible to help you achieve your goals and to feel confident in your abilities.

Private sailing Lessons

Beginner Sailing

Description: This is an introductory sailing course allowing you to feel confident in sailing a boat 20 to 30 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters. A preparatory standard with no auxiliary power or navigation skills required. Includes the Sailing Made Easy textbook. Order early allowing enough time to read the course material.

Prerequisite: No experience necessary

Cost: $525.00 (2nd person is half off)

Duration: 12 Hours of one on one training (over 2 days or 3 days)

Basic Coastal Cruising

Description: This is a more advanced course with emphasis on navigation while underway. Two days of sailing a 30' boat around the islands of Casco Bay. Includes a 3 hour Navigation Course on the first day and the Cruising Made Easy textbook. Order early allowing enough time to read the course material.

Prerequisite: Some sailing experience.

Cost: $575.00 (2nd person is half off)

Duration: 16 Hours of one on one training (over 3 days)

Adult Refresher

Description: If you've taken sailing lessons before or learned how to sail on your own but want time on the water with an instructor to learn the finer points of sailing and brush up on your skills, this Adult Refresher will help you do that. You can even choose what it is you would like more help with, including but not limited to getting on and off a mooring, sail trim, safety procedures and right-of-way rules or just gain more confidence in your sailing ability.

Prerequisite: Some sailing experience. Please fill out and bring the waiver form with you to this class.

Cost: $240.00 (2nd person is half off)

Duration: 5 Hours of one on one training

Private Sailing Lessons

Description: I offer personalized training to fit your skill level, sailing interests, and specific needs. Private lessons are available from basic to advanced sailing and are offered by arrangement. These lessons are booked in a minimum of 2-hour time slots. Lessons can be on your vessel or mine.

Prerequisite: None. Please fill out and bring the waiver form with you to this class.

Cost: $50.00/person/hr (2nd person is half off)

Basic Navigation

Description: This is an introductory course in marine navigation. You will learn chart symbols, reading charts, tides, currents, plotting between points, calculating distance, speed or time. An invaluable course for anyone who plans to be on the water in Maine.

Prerequisite: None

Cost: $70.00 (2nd person is half off) Cash, Check or Credit Card

Duration: 3 Hours

Online Courses

Take Online Courses with NauticEd and learn or brush up on your practical skills with the professional sailing instructors. I offer two ranks of skill training: Qualified Crew (beginner) and Skipper. Once you are deemed proficient, I will digitally sign your logbook. Your NauticEd sailing certification will then reflect your theory knowledge and practical proficiency. Lesson Policy

REGISTRATION
Full payment is required in advance to confirm enrollment in any class. Payments can be made by CASH, CHECK, Credit Card or Order Online. You can enroll by mail, online form or at the school office.

WHAT TO BRING

Students should dress appropriate to the weather. Proper attire includes soft soled shoes. (Tennis or deck shoes - no black soles) Sweater and or jacket, Sunglasses with safety strap. Hats and gloves optional but recommended and Sunscreen. Foul weather gear is recommended for Basic Coastal Cruising class and above.

LEARN TO SAIL GUARANTEE

A free make up class will be provided, (space available) to a student who fails to meet any of the required objectives. Students must have attended each scheduled class and have taken all prerequisite classes with Capt. Lyman Stuart. All classes must have been taken within 6 months.

CLASS SCHEDULE
These classes are very flexible and none are pre-scheduled. These are your classes and as such you pick the schedule that best meets your availability and time. As long as the availability calendar shows the date available, then you can book that date to start your class. Many times, you are the only one in the class so you get very individualized attention and on the water time.  Make ups are possible if I am notified that a class will be missed. 

CLASS CANCELLATIONS

3 day notice is required for full credit or refund. 50% charge for less than 3 day notice and no credit or refund for failure to show without notice or withdrawal after commencement of class.

REFUNDS

No refunds available once the classes have started. Cost of books and course materials may be deducted from refund if used by student.
